CARMENERE

Decades after its inception, the Chilean wine industry believed its now famous Carmenere vines were Merlot, even teaching this to students at its famed enology programs at Universidad de Chile and Universidad Catolica. Genetics has since discovered that the vines that turn bright pink while the others remain green and yellow in the fall are not Merlot, but Carmenere.
