DE-STEMMING RIESLING

After graduating in 2003 from Tufts University in Boston, MA with degrees in Biology and English, David Roy returned home to Colorado and began searching for a temporary job to provide him with enough money to travel to Ecuador to kayak. Taping boxes at a vineyard in Palisade, Colorado eventually led to the position of Cellarmaster. After returning from Ecuador, David continued working for a year and a half as Assistant Winemaker before embarking on several years of winemaking in various parts of the world.

Working in New Zealand to study aromatic, cool-climate white wines and pinot noir and Northern California to learn the secrets of big, high-alcohol red wines, his abroad experience culminated with six months of work as harvest enologist at a winery in the Maipo Valley of Chile. He has since returned to Colorado to pursue winemaking at Sutcliffe Vineyards full time.
